Bob Devol has created advertising and marketing communications for some of America’s most famous brands.
He embarked on his media journey in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer / journalist broadcaster at American Forces Network. That experience set him up for a civilian gig as an afternoon drivetime disc jockey and music director at WLAD in Danbury, Connecticut.
Bob moved over to advertising as a copywriter and broadcast producer at Firestone and Associates in New York City. There he was mentored by
Evan Stark (the creator of the Alka-Seltzer “Spicy Meatballs” classic TV spot). He moved on through four more New York agencies, working for a client roster that included General Motors, Chase, Kendall Motor Oil, Michelin Tire, Time-Life Books, BMG Music Service, U.S. Marine Corps, ESPN, AT&T and scores more.
In 1994, after an eight-year stint as vice president/associate creative director at Grey Direct, he founded Bob Devol Communications, a copywriting and creative consultancy. As an independent copywriter his clients have included IBM, BMW, Microsoft, MasterCard, Pitney Bowes, Dun and Bradstreet,
Franklin Templeton Investments, Ford Motor, Dell Computer, Discovery Channel and many others.
When not helping his clients succeed in the marketplace, Bob drives his racecar in Sports Car Club of America regional, national and pro competition. He also enjoys contemporary art, comedy, fitness and rooting for his beloved New York Football Giants. Bob’s blog ADmonishments is a collection of reviews, rants, raves and insights on copywriting and the advertising creative process.
He has collected honors from the Andy Awards, New York Advertising Festivals, Caples Awards, Business Marketing Association, and Direct Marketing Association Echo Awards.

"Bob Devol was the best investment I could have
made....period! He took my words and thoughts and
not only listened attentively but he reiterated them
with more clarity and substance than when they had
left my mouth!"
